The Art Club meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Students must have a ride home or permission to walk.

Open to all seventh and eighth-graders, the Art Club offers hands-on experience with various techniques and materials. Each session will feature a new artist or method, with projects including watercolor pencils, printmaking, and pencil drawing.

Bring a Smile to the Service is a student group that supports deployed soldiers through letters and care packages. The volunteers write weekly emails or letters and send monthly packages based on soldiers' needs.
The group prioritizes Bethel Park-connected service members and family members of Independence Middle School students, while also selecting soldiers through anysoldier.com.
To recommend a soldier or join the group, email the sponsor.
The Drama Club teaches acting techniques including stage positions, vocalization, presentation, and stage presence. Students can audition for next year's performance and participate as actors, dancers, singers, choreographers, student-directors, crew members, or in makeup, costume, publicity, and photography roles.
Once cast, students commit to regular meetings, rehearsals, and the spring performance.
Dungeons & Dragons
Meets the second, fourth, and fifth Wednesdays of each month from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game in which players create characters, use dice rolls and imagination to solve problems, battle enemies, explore worlds, and gather treasure. Both experienced players and beginners are welcome to join.
E-Newspaper

The IMS eNewspaper is published digitally four or more times yearly, with seasonal themes and student interests determining content and frequency. Weekly meetings include brainstorming and design sessions, and most creative work is done independently.
IMS FCCLA meets Mondays from 2:30-3:30 p.m., with competition team members meeting an additional day for state and national projects.
Members volunteer for SHIM, Rotary Club, and Beverly's Birthdays, participate in Homecoming and Community Day, and conduct school beautification projects and fundraisers.
The organization promotes personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education, focusing on character development, critical thinking, communication skills, and career preparation.
The IMS Handbell Choir meets weekly after school until 3:30 p.m., beginning in January. Rehearsal times adjust to accommodate members' other activities.
The 10-15 member ensemble teaches teamwork and personal responsibility as students learn their assigned parts contribute to melodic lines or harmonic accompaniment. Students develop playing techniques while reinforcing rhythm and dynamics concepts.
Performances may include seventh and eighth-grade concerts and outside opportunities.
HOTT (Homework Over Time Team) is an after-school program that meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 4 p.m. for students who struggle with homework completion. The program helps students stay on task, complete assignments, and organize using agendas, with assistance provided when needed.
Students enter through staff referrals, parent requests, or self-referrals. Regular attendance and proper behavior are mandatory. Transportation home is provided.
Interact Club
Interact Club meets the first and third Wednesday of the month from 2:45-4 p.m. in the High School LGI. Sponsors: Kelsey Chapin and Rachel Dodson.
The community service club partners with local Rotary Clubs to improve domestic and international communities. All IMS and high school students are welcome.
The Stage Band meets weekly and is open to students who would like to play various musical styles, including jazz, pop, rock, Latin, and funk. Students will learn how to play in different musical styles, including how to swing and improvise. The ensemble has the instrumentation of the sax family: trumpets, trombones, piano, guitar, bass, and drums.
The Stage Band has multiple performance opportunities throughout the school year.
The Stage Crew introduces students to the workings of the stage from the back of the house. Students will learn the intricate workings of the backstage area, including the aspects of sound and lighting. Hands-on training will occur in set design, set construction, and backdrop manipulation. Students will also have the opportunity to work backstage at the various events in the IMS auditorium, including the yearly IMS Drama Club production.
STAND supports those who feel disrespected or misunderstood, celebrates differences of cultures and communities, offers a safe space, and reaches out to inform our fellow students and staff members of the beauty and value of all. STAND will strive to incorporate ideas from BPSD's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion task force. This will include a new mentor program with the elementary schools and focus on DICE (Diversity, Inclusion, Culture, and Equity) Days, where students organize and plan school-wide activities celebrating food, dance, music, art, and community speakers from historically underrepresented groups.
Student Council

Student Council provides opportunities for students to obtain and demonstrate leadership/responsibility qualities. Students participate in a variety of activities:
Membership in the PASC (Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils)
Attending Leadership Conferences
Involvement with Community (Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Luncheon, guest speakers, visiting nursing homes, reading to the elementary schools, etc.)
Organizing fundraisers (dances, candy grams, etc.) to benefit student activities at IMS and other charities
Whether you are new to playing an instrument or already have some practice, you are welcome to join! Over the course of the year, we will learn different chords and some basic songs and practice together to get better at learning a new instrument!
The yearbook staff students will help design the yearbook cover and pages. They will incorporate a theme throughout the pages. The students will learn to use the web program, Walsworth Yearbooks. Students must attend school functions and take photographs. Other activities planned include:
