IMS students showcase engineering skills at “Design Lives Here” competition

On Friday, March 4, eleven students in Mrs. Evans' science class from IMS participated in the Design Lives Here competition sponsored by WQED and inspired by the television show "Design Squad." The event challenged students to think like engineers as they worked through hands-on design activities.

During the competition, students tackled engineering challenges, including building a working zip line and constructing a tall tower designed to withstand wind forces. In addition to the challenges, students also presented their own inventions to judges, fellow students, and members of the media.

The IMS participants and their inventions included: Arzey Underwood (Roosterinator); Violet Conroy and Jordyn Wolf (Dutch Pillow); Chris Boutin and Eric Feth (Better Bottle); Ashley Mattes and Bella Nguyen (Cell Cell); Avery Harlan (Stress Block); Caroline Morrow (Hydro-Holder); and Aubrey Kuhn and Alexis King (Clean-O-Matic).

Mattes earned 2nd place in the engineering challenges, recognizing her strong problem-solving and engineering design skills during the competition.

The event provided students with an opportunity to apply creativity, collaboration, and engineering concepts while showcasing their innovative ideas.
