IMS Spring Musical

The Independence Middle School musical is an annual rite of Spring open to students in grades 7-8.

Students may participate by auditioning for an acting role in the musical or by working behind the scenes on one of the crews, including sets, lighting, sound, props, costumes, or other areas needed to put on a high-quality show. Auditions are generally held in the first couple of weeks of November. Crew sign-ups are done anytime. The musical rehearsals run from January through the production's opening in the Spring.

Our IMS Drama Club has been highly successful thanks to the support of our Bethel Park Community, IMS Drama Club Families, and our Teachers and Staff at Independence Middle School, who are always willing to lend a hand.

If you would like more information, you may contact Mrs. Tricia Quinque at  [email protected]. You can also track real-time changes on the music department's Weebly page, including forms, documents, calendars, and more.
2026 Featured Middle School Musical: "Footloose: Youth Edition," March 5-7

This year's IMS Spring musical, "Footloose: Youth Edition," will run from March 5-7, 2026, at 7 p.m. each night. Tickets are $10 each.
Footloose: Youth Edition Synopsis:

Footloose: Youth Edition is a one-hour adaptation of the high-energy musical designed especially for young performers, bringing the beloved story and iconic score to the stage. The show follows Ren, a teenager who moves from Chicago to a small farming town where dancing has been banned by a strict local preacher, sparking conflict between generations and challenging the town’s rigid traditions. As Ren forms a bond with the preacher’s rebellious daughter and faces opposition from her jealous boyfriend and wary townspeople, the story reveals deeper themes of loss, understanding, and the need for connection between parents and children. Set to the Oscar- and Tony-nominated Top 40 hits from the chart-topping Footloose soundtrack, along with additional songs written for the stage, the musical celebrates the power of listening to young people and leading with empathy and open-mindedness.
